October 12, 2006 11:00 pm

Venture Theatre’s youth production of “Show Me What’s On” opens tonight at 8 p.m.

Tickets are $8 and can be purchased through Internet Montana, 255-9657, or at 2511 Montana Ave. Other show dates are Oct. 20 at 8 p.m., and Oct. 14, 15 and 21 at 2 p.m.

The satirical spoof of television and movies showcases the talents of 30 students ranging in age from third grade through high-school freshmen. Directed by Patrick Wilson, the show spoofs such notable television personalities as Oprah Winfrey (Okra Wimpy) as well as popular programs such as “Survivor.”

“It’s fun for them to make fun of all the shows they see on TV,” Venture Theatre executive director Mace Archer said. “The kids are clearly having a good time with this show.”

Written by playwrights Harry M. Bagdasian and Rachel Shaine Bergstein, “Show Me What’s On” takes a look at mega movies like “Braveheart” and a favorite of Archer’s, “Dysfunctional Family Feud.”

Wilson, who was last seen in “Cannibal, the Musical,” adds a comic actor’s touch to the production. This is his first time directing a Venture production.
