NOVA Center for the Performing Arts will be a beehive of artistic performance on the weekends of the 2014 Billings Fringe Festival. Theatre, Dance, Comedy – both stand-up and improvisational, Film, Visual Art, Music and Poetry will share our stages and rehearsal rooms.

Highlights of the festival will include NOVA’s contribution, St. Nicholas by Conor McPherson, a one-man show about an Irish theatre critic’s life-changing encounter with a coven of vampires, performed by accomplished Billings actor Vincent Raye. NOVA’S popular improv comedy troupes, Venture Improv and Funky Bunch will also delight audiences and students from the Youth Conservatory will show-off the skills they are perfecting in classes at the Center.

Canvas, the dynamic arts advocacy collective, will host the opening night celebration with performances by poets, musicians, and artists leading community-created art projects in which everyone can participate. Opening night is Thursday, March 6 at 7pm. Every night of the festival will culminate in a performance of St. Nicholas by Conor McPherson in our Café, an intimate classroom/ dance studio. NOVA Youth Director, Dan Nickerson, will also present a one-man show in our Black Box Theatre.

Terpsichore Dance Company, MAD Co, Billings Dance Academy, and Spiral Skies Bellydance will represent the Billings dance community. Diane Kylander, Cason Nile, Matthew Kettlehake and Will Thomas will take the mic for stand-up comedy performances. Short films by Shad Scott, Marshall Granger, Brooke Moncada and Shane McClurg will light up our big screen. And Let’s Talk Billings, a suicide prevention program that uses theatre to address the epidemic of suicide in our community, will present two short plays by students followed by a talk-back session to answer questions about how to get help for those in the throes of suicidal thoughts.

Festival day passes are $15 Thursday and Friday and $20 on Saturday. Call 406-591-9535 or visit our website at www.NOVAbillings.org for tickets or more information.
