Director: Amber Sommerfeld currently lives in the Bay Area of California. She has a degree in Theatre Arts with a Minor in Musical Theatre from Santa Clara University. Recently she has performed with Woman’s Will, Pacific Repertory Theatre, Half Moon Bay Shakespeare, SJREAL at San Jose Rep, and other work with SF Shakes.

Little Josh- Harley Heeftle is 11 years old. BIG is his fourth production with NOVA. His latest role was playing the part of Mayor Cluck in Chicken Little. He has also been in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Amahl and The Night Visitors.
Billy- Miyon Durham is a 12-year-old guy, entering 7th grade, who loves music, dance, gaming, skateboards, family and friends. He is pleased to be a part of NOVA theatre.
Josh- Cole Whittington is a junior at Skyview. He loves performing and has been in many productions at Venture, NOVA, Billings Studio Theatre and Skyview. His favorite NOVA show was Bye Bye Birdie.
MacMillian- Evan Ulrichs attends high school at the Career Center where he is an aspiring engineer. His most recent performance was All Shook Up at Skyview High School. BIG: the musical is Evan’s seventh performance at NOVA.
Susan- Emma Ulrichs attends school at Castle Rock and has done several shows at NOVA including Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Emma has had a fantastic time working with this cast and crew.
Paul- Shannon Sheehy will be an eighth grader at Will James Middle School. She was most recently seen in NOVA’s production of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland as Alice. Shannon has been in shows at both NOVA and Billings Studio Theatre.
Mrs. Baskins- Brianna West was recently in Aladdin Jr at Billings Studio Theatre and Bye Bye Birdie at NOVA. This summer she volunteered her time at NOVA. Also, she thanks her mom for her support.
Miss Watson- Danielle Dupree has performed in 15 shows. BIG is her fifth show in Billings after moving here last year. She has enjoyed working with a wonderful cast and directors. She would like to thank the theatre community for being so accepting to new people.
Cynthia Benson- Gwendolyn Clark, who just moved here from Spokane, is thrilled to be in her first production at NOVA! She thanks mom and dad for supporting her and NOVA for this opportunity.
Derek- Tyler Shackelford is a freshman at Skyview High School. He has been in several NOVA productions including Journey To The World’s Edge, The Giver, and Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. He is a NOVA Funky Bunch troupe member.
Bean Bag Toss Lady- Anastasia is going into 7th grade at Lockwood. Recently she performed in Aladdin Jr at Billings Studio Theatre. She would like to thank her family and friends for their support.
Ticket Taker- Makay Loran is a freshman at Central High School. Most recently she has been seen in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Bye Bye Birdie at NOVA and Let’s Talk Billings.
Panhandler- Carrack Napier is going into 8th grade at Lockwood. Most recently he has performed in Aladdin Jr at Billings Studio Theatre. He would like to thank his family and friends for their support.
Junior Exec daughter- Madilyn Clark
Salesperson- Lexi Cooper is going into the eighth grade at Will James Middle School. BIG: the musical will be her seventh performance at NOVA. Lexi last appeared on stage in Billings Studio Theatre production of Aladdin Jr.
P.A. Announcer- Gabe Slater going into 7th grade at Castle Rock is excited to be a part of Big: the musical. He has performed in numerous shows with Billings Studio Theatre and NOVA. He would like to thank Amber, the NOVA staff and his parents for their support.
Junior Executive- Madi Morgan is a freshman at West High. Most recently she has been seen in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, The Giver and Bye Bye Birdie at NOVA and Aladdin at Billings Studio Theatre.
Kid on street- Jack Gauthier is going into 7th grade at Sleeping Giant Middle School in Livingston. He has performed in The Vaudevillians at the Shane Center and the Pied Piper with Missoula Community Theatre. He is excited to be involved with his first NOVA show.
‘BIG: The Musical’ opens NOVA’s new season
The NOVA Center for the Performing Arts is opening its 2014-15 season with “BIG: The Musical,” running weekends through Aug. 24.
It is a musical version of the 1988 movie that starred Tom Hanks. It is based on a book by John Weidman, with music by David Shire and lyrics by Richard Maltby, Jr. The NOVA production is directed by Amber Sommerfeld, with musical direction by Darin Niebuhr and choreography by Steven Hrubes.
“BIG” tells the story of Josh, a boy who finds himself to have grown up overnight after being granted a wish by a carnival machine. He soon discovers all of the struggles that come with being an adult.
The NOVA production is a family-friendly comedy that is equivalent to a PG movie rating. “BIG” runs on Aug. 14-17 and Aug. 21-24.
Tickets are available for $15 for students, seniors and military, and $20 for adults, plus an extra dollar service fee per ticket. Discounts are available for groups of 10 or more.
