“Amahl and the Night Visitors,” Gian Carlo
Menotti’s Christmas opera, will be performed in English at NOVA
Center for the Performing Arts on Jan. 9-10 at 7:30 p.m. and
Sunday, Jan. 11, 2014 at 2 p.m.
This one-act opera
is the holiday story of Amahl, a precocious disabled boy; his
loving, care-worn mother; and the regal visitors who arrive one
night and change Amahl’s life forever. With its beautiful score
and touching libretto, “Amahl and the Night Visitors” is
appealing to all ages and musical backgrounds and is an
inspiring story of how faith, charity, unselfish love and good
deeds can truly work miracles.
This will be NOVA’s second
presentation of Amahl. Returning in this year’s production,
directed by William Mouat, are Amy Logan as the mother; her son,
Jacob Logan, as Amahl; and Shawn Rasch as Kaspar, one of the
travelling kings.
The other kings will be portrayed by
Mouat and Harlan Reidmohr, a baritone soloist from the Bozeman
area who will be making his NOVA debut.Travis Kuehn, a veteran
of many Venture Theatre and NOVA productions (The Who’s “Tommy”
and “Little Shop of Horrors”) will play the servant to the
kings. Sandi Rabas will serve as music director and accompanist,
and Krista Marshall will choreograph the dancers.
The
ensemble of shepherds will include Mitch Harmon, Travis Kuehn,
Emma King, Lynn Laubach, Alonzo D. Marquez, Aimee Papa, Mady
Rose and Hannah Leigh Wambolt. Dancers will include Eliza Krogh,
Abbey Bentson, Kennedy Kimball, Jessie Amstutz, Harmony Green,
Preslie Ball, Brynn Barriger and Iyana Fawcett.

Box Office at 2317 Montana Ave. from noon to 5 p.m. Tuesdays
through Fridays.
Tickets are $21 for adults and $16 for
students, seniors and active military, all with a valid ID
(prices include a $1 facility fee). Groups of 10 or more get 10
percent off and groups of 20 or more get half-price tickets and
